Forecast: a sky full of glory, mostly unread.
Four tired ways to walk
Each has some truth in it. None of them is the whole story.
Under GodSheep that hide from the Shepherd
I’d better not enjoy the world too much, or it might turn into an idol.
Over GodSheep that know the way
Nature is a set of resources. Manage it efficiently and that’s the whole story.
From GodSheep that follow the grass
Creation is my backdrop. Mountains exist for my weekends and my photos.
For GodSheep trying to be the sheepdog
If I don’t care for the earth perfectly, I’ve failed the job God gave me.
The heavens tell his glory, and we get to tend his garden with him.
“The heavens declare the glory of God” (Ps 19:1), every single night, whether we look up or not. In the beginning God put the man in the garden “to work it and take care of it” (Gen 2:15). Creation itself is waiting with eager longing for God to set it free (Rom 8:19–22). Caring for the world is something we get to do alongside him, out of love for the One who made it.
Where the Shepherd isJesus told worried people to look at the wildflowers, dressed better than Solomon (Matt 6:28–29). He made them, and he still notices them.
Step outside for five minutes today and look up. Thank him for one thing he made.
Maker of heaven and earth, what are you showing me in the things you made?
