Four tired ways to walk
Each has some truth in it. None of them is the whole story.
Under GodSheep that hide from the Shepherd
If I waste a minute, God is keeping track, and it’s going on my record.
Over GodSheep that know the way
Time blocks, a productivity app, and a five a.m. routine. I’ve got this handled.
From GodSheep that follow the grass
God, just give me more hours in the day and I’ll finally be happy.
For GodSheep trying to be the sheepdog
Every hour has to be spent productively for the kingdom, or it was wasted.
Our times are in his hands, so we can walk at the Shepherd’s pace.
David prayed, “My times are in your hands” (Ps 31:15), right in the middle of trouble. Moses asked God to “teach us to number our days” (Ps 90:12) so we would gain a heart of wisdom. There is a time for everything, and God makes everything beautiful in its time (Eccl 3:1–11). Time is a gift from him. We don’t have to beat the clock to walk with him.
Where the Shepherd isWhen the crowds were so thick the disciples couldn’t even eat, Jesus said, “Come with me… to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31).
Leave five minutes empty today. No phone, no task. Just notice that he’s there.
Lord, what would you have me leave undone today?
