Forecast: warm and bright, with scattered happy tears and a slight chance of the wine running out.

Four tired ways to walk

Each has some truth in it. None of them is the whole story.

Our marriage has to be a model ministry that proves something to everyone.

With God · the way home

His first sign was at a wedding, and he still loves to show up at them.

Jesus went to a wedding in Cana, and when the wine ran out he quietly made more, and better (John 2:1–11). He was a guest who cared about the party. Couples have long borrowed Ruth’s words for their vows, “Where you go I will go” (Ruth 1:16–17). A cord of three strands is not quickly broken (Eccl 4:12), and he is glad to be woven into a marriage. On an anniversary, it’s good to remember he has been at the table the whole time.

Where the Shepherd isHe is at the reception, keeping the best for later. “You have saved the best till now” (John 2:10).

For the road

Whether it’s your wedding, your anniversary, or a friend’s, raise a glass and thank Jesus out loud for showing up.

Ask him

Jesus, when we run out, will you make more?
