Us with Godand Wonder

Forecast: clear skies at night, with stars visible and jaws dropping.

Four tired ways to walk

Each has some truth in it. None of them is the whole story.

Under GodSheep that hide from the Shepherd

I shouldn’t get too excited about creation; that sounds a little pagan.

Over GodSheep that know the way

It’s all just physics and biology, beautifully explained.

From GodSheep that follow the grass

God, give me more moments like this; I need the feeling.

For GodSheep trying to be the sheepdog

This sunset would make a great sermon illustration.

With God · the way home

Delight in him, and not only in his works.

“The heavens declare the glory of God” (Ps 19:1). The sky is preaching, and the sermon is about him. David looked at the moon and stars and ended up amazed that God remembers us at all (Ps 8:3–4). When God answered Job, he gave him a tour of the wild things, the ostrich and the horse and the hawk (Job 38–39). Jesus told us to look at the birds and see a Father who feeds them (Matt 6:26). Wonder is an open door, and he is the one standing in it.

Where the Shepherd isHe is the Word through whom all things were made, so every beautiful thing has his fingerprints on it (John 1:3).

For the road

Go outside tonight and look up for five minutes, then tell God what you notice about him.

Ask him

What are you showing me about yourself in this?

Sit with

Ps 8Ps 19:1–4Job 38–39Matt 6:26

Fellow travelers

People in Scripture who walked this ground before us.

  • David stared at the night sky and asked, “What is mankind that you are mindful of them?” (Ps 8:3–4).
  • Job met God in the whirlwind and said, “Now my eyes have seen you” (Job 42:5).

Keep walking
