Prayers for the Road
Short prayers for each way we wander, and for the beginning and end of a day.
When I’ve been hiding (Under God)
Abba, I’ve been hiding again. Thank you for coming to find me. Let me stop bargaining and simply come close. (Rom 8:15)
When I’ve been running things (Over God)
Lord, I’ve been managing everything. Here are my plans, and I open my hands. Be the One who builds the house. (Ps 127:1)
When I’ve wanted the gifts more than you (From God)
Father, thank you for every good gift. More than any of them, I want you. (Ps 73:25)
When I’ve been too busy for you (For God)
Jesus, I’ve been so busy for you that I’ve missed you. Let me sit at your feet before I get up again. (Luke 10:42)
Walking with him (With God)
Good Shepherd, I hear your voice. Wherever you go today, I’ll follow. (John 10:27)
In the morning
Lord, this day is yours, and you are already in it. Walk with me through every hour, and help me notice you. (Ps 143:8)
At night
Lord, thank you for being with me today, in what went well and what didn’t. I will lie down in peace, because you keep me safe. (Ps 4:8)
When there are no words
The prayer Jesus taught is always enough (Matt 6:9–13). And when even that won’t come, the Spirit prays for us with groans too deep for words (Rom 8:26).
