How to Use This Almanac
Three ways in. One destination.
Old almanacs were practical books. People opened them to find out when to plant, what weather to expect, and which day the feast fell on. This one works the same way, for the soul.
By the season
The seasons follow the church year, which tells the story of God with us from Advent to Christ the King, plus a few dates from the civil calendar and four pages for any season. The calendar shows this year’s dates.
By the terrain
The field guide covers the ground of everyday life. Terrain is where we live, arranged by the lines of Psalm 23. Weather is what passes through us. Crossings are the moments we pass through.
By the question
Not sure where to start? Try Which Way Are You Walking?, a short self-check that points you to one of the five ways to walk.
On every page
- A forecast naming what you may be walking through.
- Four tired voices, so you can recognize your own.
- Where the Shepherd is in that terrain.
- Fellow travelers from Scripture who walked it before us.
- For the road: one small practice to try today.
- Scripture links that open on Bible Gateway. Pick your translation in the bar at the bottom of the page, and the almanac remembers it.
About the book behind it
The five postures come from Skye Jethani’s With. This almanac retells them in the language of sheep and Shepherd. Read his book for the full picture.
