Us with Godand Church
Forecast: crowded conditions, with warm fronts moving in wherever two or three gather.
Four tired ways to walk
Each has some truth in it. None of them is the whole story.
Under GodSheep that hide from the Shepherd
I show up on Sunday so God will be pleased with me.
Over GodSheep that know the way
Church is a program, and programs can always be optimized.
From GodSheep that follow the grass
Church exists to meet my needs, and lately it hasn’t.
For GodSheep trying to be the sheepdog
I’m a volunteer slot in the machine, and the machine never stops.
Church is a people God lives among, sharing his presence.
Jesus promised that where two or three gather in his name, he is there with them (Matt 18:20). The first believers shared meals, prayers, homes, and possessions, and everyone was filled with awe (Acts 2:42–47). Together we are being built into a dwelling where God lives by his Spirit (Eph 2:22). Church is a family gathered around him, more than a building or an event. If church has worn you out lately, you’re not alone.
Where the Shepherd isHe walks among the lampstands, present with his churches as they really are (Rev 2:1).
Learn one new name at church this week, and pray for that person by name.
Lord, where are you among your people here?
